Author Reflection
I truly enjoyed working on this project. Through my research I have learned so much about who Moravians are and what their historical ties are to the state of North Carolina. I had always wonder how the Moravian Church came about and was able to uncover the history behind it. I learned where the Moravian Church was started and who founded it as well as many other important and influential people that help to form what the church is today. I also was able to research and learn about Moravian culture and how the different aspects of their culture helps to preserve their way of live. I had an opportunity as well to explore some common misconceptions that people have about Moravians and was able to through research to find the truth in those misunderstandings. Overall, I feel that I have greatly increased my knowledge about Moravians and the Moravian Church and feel confident in my ability to teach this content to students.
The topic of Moravians is something that can be taught in social studies in all elementary grades in someway or another. Moravians have great ties to the state of North Carolina and have contributed greatly to North Carolina's history and culture. The study of Moravians is relevant to the study of social studies because it looks at the culture and history of Moravians. This topic of study is relevant to student because they can understand the similarities and difference between their own culture and others.

The content I have learned in doing this project on Moravian will a great resource to me as I become a teacher. I will be able to use this content and knowledge I have gained to teach my students about Moravians while connecting it to the social studies standards. I think that it is important for students to have multiple perspectives in social studies and feel that content about Moravians can offer that to students. I also think that students have the opportunity to learn the different cultures and religions that are a part of North Carolina's state history and culture and one to do that is by educating students about Moravians. My hope is to teach my students to appreciate and respect other cultures and religions as well as to recognize their contributions to state. I also am hopefully that in teaching about Moravians in my classroom that students will become well rounded in their knowledge and understanding of social studies so that they can be active member of their communities.
